Stuff!
Wow, nearly 700 members and 86,000 player records - you guys rock. Sorry that I haven’t been around to make the site better.
Regulars to the site may have noticed not much changing recently. I took a bit of a break from stuff in general - ‘Two Months Off’, so to speak - and now I’m back into full time work. For now, I have to travel about 1.5 hours each way for this job, so it leaves me with much less time to do serious development work on my own stuff, but at least this time it’s a PHP job. So at some point it may motivate me into continuing to iron out this site and work on some of the new things I had planned.
Feel free to keep using the site, even if it’s in a bit of a feature freeze. I know it’s getting a bit slow again, I’ll look into the database resource usage and maybe go ahead with purchasing more from the host.
p.s. for anyone who is a spamusement fan, I occasionally make my own comics too - spam.whoah.net - hope you get a kick out of it

Yeah, its slow to update now. I check this site everyday to see my PPH from the night before, but its taking a few days to update now so that feature is gone.
Thanks for the site, its still usefull as is.

That’s a one-off bug that I noticed during the week. I know what’s causing it, and I should have time to fix it over the weekend.
(The slowness I meant was the occasionally slow-to-load page)
Glad you like the site.

Heh… I approved that comment for lolfactor, I wouldn’t have a clue what he’s on about.
You’re right though, weird - looked ok on the surface till I actually checked out a profile page, and then others. I’ll check it out on the weekend.

Character-encoding & XML issues. Should be fine again.

This project still active…? No updates for well over a month =(

I’m sad that this appears to be dead…
If you guys aren’t hosting it anymore, how come it still exists? And if you are hosting it, why isn’t it updating itself?
March 2nd, 2009 at 11:39 pm
Though the hosting costs are minimal, I’ve been very busy at work. It has drained my will to look at any code outside of what I do from 9 - 5.
I didn’t actually realise it was no longer updating (at all) - I think the cron service I was using has shut down.
I’ll look into it within the next few days. Sorry folks.

Good to see a response raw =)
Hope it is just a matter of the cron needing restarting…
That said, I’m sure there are a few people in the community willing to help out with changes that may need to be made if need be? (such as changes to how the steam stats are read/whatever). PHP backend right? Let us know what we (me?) can do to help

Yay, it updated
Thanks for figuring out whatever the problem was, this is a great site for TF2 stats.

PHP was segfaulting (no visible error) due to an overly complex regex that I simplified, plus the whole cronjob thing. Fun times!
My host doesn’t offer cron, yet (in the works) so I source it from elsewhere. I used to use a free one which is now commercial, and am currently using the free trial at http://www.getcron.com - but it only allows hourly crons. If anyone knows another reliable free one that allows at least 15 min intervals, please advise.
I’d prefer not to use anyone’s personal server crons or one on a work server.
I should slap a ‘beta’ sticker up the top, it seems to be the thing to do for sites these days.

My host doesn’t like something I’m doing with the regular updates and have disabled the site for now. It’ll return soon when I work out why, exactly, and fix it.

Their support responses are very generic even though it’s a real person, I can’t figure out exactly what it is they don’t like about my updater. For now, updates are disabled until I can figure out why they don’t like it.
I haven’t changed the update process for about 9 months either so, no idea why they decide against it now.
In summary: site on, updates off until I can restructure it.

I’m interested to know the kind of bandwidth/space and processing specs that the site uses/consumes…
If you manage to figure out what you’re “doing wrong” with regards to your host and/or need a hand restructuring (due to lack of time), offer is again on the table
